On September 23rd, high-level representatives from countries participating in 50-in-5 will gather in New York City from 5:30-7:00pm ET to celebrate and showcase the positive impacts that participating countries are fostering through the implementation of safe, inclusive, and interoperable DPI.

To date, 15 countries have officially joined the 50-in-5 initiative, demonstrating a growing commitment to advancing DPI on a global scale. This milestone event will see several additional countries announce their participation in the campaign, including those with significant regional and global influence. The gathering will spotlight real-world examples of how safe, inclusive, and interoperable DPI solutions are being leveraged to enhance public service delivery, foster economic resilience, and address critical challenges like climate change. A key focus will be on the role of digital public goods in scaling these efforts, emphasising their potential to accelerate development outcomes and foster collaboration across sectors and borders.

Facilitated by event champion UNICEF, and in collaboration with 50-in-5 country representatives, this segment will highlight the role of digital public goods in linking DPI to people’s everyday needs, scaling DPI in a sustainable way, and enabling people’s digital sovereignty and capabilities.

From Principles to Practice: Safeguarding People in the Digital World
Facilitated by event champions UNDP and the United Nations Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, this segment will spotlight the Universal DPI Safeguards initiative and commitments to safe and inclusive implementations by countries. The conversation will feature perspectives from leaders in governments, civil society, and the private sector – who are at the forefront of designing and shaping how safeguards are being translated from principles to practice. 

Catalyzing Change: DPI Success throughout Latin America and the Caribbean
Facilitated by event champion the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with participation from a 50-in-5 country, this segment will showcase how DPI is advancing digital transformation across Latin America and the Caribbean and driving inclusive and sustainable development by highlighting successful implementations and innovative approaches.

Unlocking Potential: Digital Cooperation for DPI
Facilitated by event organisers the Digital Public Goods Alliance Secretariat, with participation from 50-in-5 countries, this segment will explore how digital public goods and open-source technologies are driving robust digital cooperation for DPI implementation. The discussion will underscore the importance of collaboration in fostering inclusive societies and building resilient economies.

50-IN-5 Milestone Celebrations and Announcements
Throughout the event there will be country interventions symbolising their commitment to digital public infrastructure and 50-in-5. It will include announcements of new countries joining the campaign.

This event is organised by the Digital Public Goods Alliance Secretariat, in close collaboration with Co-Develop, the Inter-American Development Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, and the United Nations Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, who are serving as event champions. The 50-in-5 initiative is also supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure, GovStack, USAID, and UN Women.
