Uzbekistan Joins 50-in-5!
Tashkent, September 18, 2024 – At the forum “Digital Government: Prospective Plans and Obstacles,” held during ICTWeek Uzbekistan 2024, the Ministry of Digital Technologies proudly announced that the Republic of Uzbekistan has joined the 50-in-5 campaign. By joining, Uzbekistan reaffirms its commitment to developing safe, inclusive, and interoperable digital public infrastructure to build resilient and innovative economies and enhance the well-being of its people.
Uzbekistan is the first country in Central Asia to join the 50-in-5 campaign. This move comes just before the 50-in-5 DPI for People and Planet event in New York City, where other countries are expected to announce their participation.
“The sustainability of our economy, the quality and effective activities of all sectors, the convenience of life for the population depend on information technology.” – Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s current key DPI focus areas include:
Digital Identity: The country is actively piloting and maintaining platforms such as “MyID,” which allows citizens to link personal information, including transport cards and government services, into a unified digital identity system used by government agencies, banks, and e-commerce platforms.
Digital Payments: Uzbekistan is digitalizing its economy through the development of electronic payment systems. Regulatory frameworks ensure secure usage, while the Unified Billing System facilitates over 1,100 payments and services across 70 state agencies. This system processes transactions in real-time, making public services more efficient and transparent.
Data Exchange Systems: The Uzbekistan Open Data Portal offers access to over 9,100 datasets, laying the groundwork for open public administration and future digital public infrastructure development.
As part of the 50-in-5 campaign, Uzbekistan will collaborate with other participating countries to share best practices and drive forward digital transformation efforts that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
