Jamaica Joins 50-in-5!

Since its launch in November 2023, the 50-in-5 campaign has brought together countries from across regions and income levels to strengthen digital cooperation and accelerate the implementation of safe, inclusive, and interoperable digital public infrastructure (DPI) in 50 countries by 2028. On April 10th, 50-in-5 was proud to welcome Jamaica as the 24th country to join the campaign, and the sixth from the Latin America and Caribbean region.
Jamaica announced its participation in the campaign during the closing ceremony of the Caribbean DPI Summit, held in Kingston from April 8–10. The three-day summit, themed ‘DPI: Challenges and Opportunities for Small Island Developing States’, brought together leaders from across the Caribbean and Latin America to explore how DPI can be scaled and sustained in diverse national contexts.
Senator the Hon. Ambassador Audrey Marks, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Efficiency, Innovation and Digital Transformation, made the official announcement. She highlighted Jamaica’s commitment to digital transformation through the rollout of the National Identification System (NIDS), the country’s ambitious efforts to provide universal broadband access, and the establishment of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Authority.
“I’m proud to announce that Jamaica has officially joined the global 50-in-5 campaign—a bold initiative to accelerate the implementation of DPI around the world through shared learning, partnerships, and innovation. Jamaica sees itself not just as a beneficiary, but as a contributor to the global movement around DPI. We believe that small island developing states like ours have unique perspectives and strengths to offer. Through 50-in-5, we will learn, share, and lead.” – Hon. Ambassador Audrey Marks
By joining 50-in-5, Jamaica signals its readiness to contribute to and benefit from the campaign’s efforts to reduce costs, enhance capacity, and unlock the full potential of digital public infrastructure. Its participation reinforces the campaign’s belief that digital cooperation—grounded in openness, inclusivity, and shared purpose—is essential to building safe, inclusive and interoperable DPI everywhere.
