Algeria joins the 50-in-5 campaign

Algiers, Thursday, April 2nd, 2026

50-in-5 is proud to welcome the Government of Algeria, represented by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, to the campaign. This milestone, announced at the Global Africa Tech Summit held in Algiers last week, reflects Algeria’s strong commitment to accelerating the development of inclusive, safe, and interoperable digital public infrastructure that benefits all citizens.

Algeria’s DPI journey is anchored in three key priorities: establishing a trusted national digital identity, advancing inclusive digital payments through its postal network, and building a secure government data exchange platform to enable interoperability across ministries. At the same time, the country is expanding AI-ready infrastructure, strengthening digital skills centers, and scaling citizen-centric e-services to ensure that digital transformation reaches every Algerian, from the capital to the most remote communities.

The National Digital ID framework is in its rollout phase, supported by the 2025 electronic trust law, with digital signature, authentication, and e-certification being integrated across government services. Algeria’s digital payments ecosystem is already mature and operating at scale through Algérie Poste, with tens of millions of accounts and cards interoperable with mobile wallets, and ongoing enhancements such as instant payments and QR functionality. Meanwhile, the Government Data Exchange Hub is actively under construction, connecting core registries and standardising APIs to enable secure, resilient data sharing across ministries.

By becoming the 33rd country to join the 50-in-5 campaign, and the 15th in Africa, Algeria will participate in peer learning and collaboration with other member countries, sharing its experience in building inclusive and interoperable DPI while also drawing on global best practices to further strengthen its digital transformation journey.
